Brief History of Reiki

Many kinds of Reiki have developed since the first Reiki teachings came to the west from Japan in 1937. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words—Rei meaning “higher power” and Ki meaning "life force energy", so Reiki translates to “spiritually guided life force energy”. Dr Mikao Usui founded Usui Reiki Ryoho in Tokyo in 1922 and many new Reiki disciplines have emerged since then.

Reiki is a form of energy work that can help balance your physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.  Reiki techniques are believed to enhance overall physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. There is nothing you must believe in order to benefit from Reiki. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe form of energy healing, which aims to treat the whole person. It works in conjunction with all other medical and therapeutic techniques. Reiki is not a cure and should not be used in place of conventional healthcare.

All Reiki sessions will begin and end with light meditation and/or  breathwork. Meditation is a practice that involves focusing the mind to achieve mental clarity and emotional stability. Combined with breathwork, this is a beautiful, calming exercise to create calmness in the body, reduce stress, reduce anxiety and improve mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing ready for healing.

Sound Reiki

Sound reiki combines the energy healing of Reiki with the healing sound vibrations of  tuning forks or singing bowls.  It promotes relaxation, reduces stress and pain, and enhances overall health by using the healing properties of sound and vibration to enrich reiki healing, harmonising the body, mind and soul.

Karuna Reiki

Karuna and Holy Fire Reiki offer a different connection to higher spiritual consciousness.  It is powerful yet gentle and provides deep healing.  Karuna Reiki is focused on compassion and is particularly good for addressing trauma.

*Most forms of Reiki  will  hand positions which are placed gently on the body or intuition-guided touch.  Reiki can also be done using a non-touch technique if you prefer.

Distance Reiki

All forms of Reiki allow treatment to be sent over distances. Distance Reiki can take a number of forms.  This will be discussed on an individual basis should Distance Reiki be considered appropriate.

We will support you to choose the best type of reiki for you based on your individual needs. We can also mix and match if it suits your needs.

Usui Reiki -Traditional Japanese Reiki

This is the most commonly used Reiki technique.  This form of Reiki uses specific hand positions* to balance and align energy within the body. Practitioners use symbols to enhance the flow of energy and advance the healing process.

Angelic Reiki

This is a form of Reiki that connects with the concept of Spiritual/Angelic realms to channel additional healing energies. There are no set hand positions, practitioners work along energy centres and follow their intuition for healing. This is a gentle yet powerful form of Reiki increases your vibration and promotes profound healing.

Crystal Reiki

Crystal Reiki integrates the principles of Usui Reiki with the additional vibrational energy of crystals.  Crystals amplify the flow of energy enhancing healing and can also be used to target specific issues. Crystals are placed on or around the body combining their natural energy frequencies with universal energy.  Perfect for those who are drawn to the metaphysical properties of crystals.

Chakra Reiki

Chakra Reiki is an energy healing technique that balances the 7 chakras. The goal is to harmonise all the chakras by removing blockages/stagnant energies, restoring natural balance, helping the body to regain its natural ability to heal improving physical, emotional and spiritual health. Often a pendulum is used to determine where blockages may be and hand positions* will be in harmony with the chakra positions most in need of Reiki. Reiki energy will still flow to the other chakras to ensure healing energies go to everywhere they are needed.  Chakra Reiki can also be combined with Crystal Reiki, by using specific chakra crystals to enhance energy flow.

Animal Reiki at Soul Focus Wellbeing

Animals, like humans, can experience various physical ailments, health conditions, and injuries, sometimes necessitating surgical intervention. As they age, it is common for them to encounter ongoing aches and pains. Animal Reiki is a gentle, natural therapy that supports the animal's inherent healing processes and can be administered in their home environment or remotely using Distant Reiki techniques.

Reiki typically proves to be a calming experience for animals; however, it is essential to remember that it should not be forced upon them. Animals will instinctively withdraw when they have had enough, especially during hands-on treatments. The hand positions used during Reiki sessions are carefully aligned with the animal's individual chakras, fostering relaxation, enhancing overall wellbeing, alleviating discomfort, and aiding them in transitioning peacefully over the Rainbow Bridge.

It is crucial to note that Reiki is not a substitute for traditional veterinary care, nor is it intended as a cure. Instead, it should be embraced as a complementary therapy that supports and enhances an animal's health and wellbeing.

*Every animal family will need to be assessed before treatment is agreed to and commenced.

Unfortunately Soul Focus is unable to offer hands on Reiki to animals with severe behavioural problems at this time. However, distance Reiki can be performed.
